March 2008 Presidents Message:

Greetings to all my quilting friends/guild members –

Wow, this last meeting was very “busy” and so much fun! We did our beautiful silk ribbon embroidery with Sherry Turner and I personally know several people who have a new obsession with that…..then there was the showing of our charity quilt that we donated to People First and the wonderful representatives that came…..the ladies from Quilts on Broadway brought the beautiful star quilt the men had made for Quilts of Valor…….and I must say that I was excited by the turnout. There were a lot of new faces along with faces that haven’t been seen in awhile. Great to see all of you and I hope that you continue to attend regularly ‘cause we have a lot more fun in store this year.  March’s program will be hosted by Lily Kinross-Wright, owner of Little Timber Quilts. She will be showing us an interesting way to put binding on with a Ricky Timms method. You won’t want to miss this one.  One other upcoming meeting will be a hands-on beading project provided by the Garden of Beadin’ so make sure to keep the second Tuesday of every month blocked out on your calendar so as not to miss the fun.

There was talk at the last meeting about our studio/sewing room tour for this year. Barb Cribb had mentioned that there needed to be 5 rooms for it to work. The volunteers were; Karen Colglazier, Ann Drenk, Deb Aldworth and Sharon Stoneberger.  Barb seems to have missed one person when taking notes and would love it if the missing person would give her a call.

We had a great time at the wheelchair sew day, for those of you that missed it. We got a lot more tops sewn and more were quilted too. It’s a lot to do with just 6 or 7 people so it would be wonderful if anyone could step up and do more piecing at home or volunteer to quilt the tops that we have done. Tese and Marla wound up with 6 or so tops apiece that they took home to quilt and I know that they would love some help.

March 15th will be a UFO sew day hosted by Tese Shekitka at the Church. It’s $5 for all day, bring your sack lunch and finish one of your projects. Please get in touch with Tese to sign up if you haven’t already.

Thanks go out to all the participants that brought food bank donations. Please be reminded that this will be an ongoing thing and we would like to see donations at every meeting.

See you  all in April.

Cathie

February 2008 -

Presidents Message:
Greetings to all my quilting friends/guild members;

I heard that the January meeting went well and we seem to be off to a nice start with some great monthly programs on tap from Barb Cribb.  I will have to borrow the DVD on the "Quilts of Gees Bend" as it sounds like it was really good and an inspiring story.

Our Charity quilt for People First has been completed.  WaHoo!!  Bev Palm  had some unfortunate problems with her quilting machine so Linda James stepped up and quilted it for us and also put on the binding.  Pat Stackhouse has delivered it to the People First representative who will be at the February meeting along with some of the folks that will benefit from the raffle.

Tese Shekitka will once again have a sign up sheet available at the February meeting for those who would like to attend the March 15th sew day.

Please don't forget your food bank donation.  You will receive an additional raffle ticket for your donation.  These items are for the church's food drive.  The church has been so good to us these last few years and this is just a small way to show our appreciation.

The church has requested that all contact for sew days, potluck Christmas dinners, guild meetings, classes, etc., need to go through one person so there is no confusion.  That person is Barb Cribb.  If there are any such requests please let Barb know.

We want to provide our members with the kind of classes, information and fun times that you are looking for.  If you have any suggestions, ideas or comments please contact on of the board members.  We welcome your feedback and as always guild members are invited to attend board meetings.

See you all in February.

January 2008 -

Presidents message:
Greetings to all my quilting friends/guild members;

I hope that everyone's Holiday Season was safe, warm, full of good friends and too much yummy food.  It's hard to believe that 2007 is over.  Here's to a great 2008!

I am looking forward to the next year as your new President.  Unfortunately for my first meeting in office I will not be present.  I will be in California - in the Bay Area - visiting my daughter Melissa and her fiance Scott.  You will be in good hands with Vice-President Barb Cribb and the other new board members at the helm in my absence.

Our Christmas Party was a blast!  I am sorry that many of you could not attend  The Fireside room at the church was very nice and the food provided by everyone was delicious, so much so that I had to ask for recipes.  Thanks to all who brought the bountiful fare.

Our gift exchange was a great success and I thought all of the gifts were wonderful, a point that Carol Jo Wood could attest to.  She started the gift exchange by getting the honor of opening the first gift.  Unfortunately, she also opened most of the other gifts as her gift kept getting taken away.  I must say that she did end up with a great gift and got to be the first to choose one of the lovely table centerpieces to take home.

At the last meeting we had a count on the wheelchair quilts that have been turned in and I think that it was around 21.  The woman that Pat spoke with about how many they needed expressed an interest in 70.  If you have any kits at home, or would like to make one out of your stash, we would love to be able to have them turned in soon as it is lap quilt weather.

We have some ideas for 2008 programs but as always we are open to your suggestions of what you would like to see and learn.  Barb Cribb will be our program director and would love your input.

Just a reminder to check out our website: www.gallatinquiltguild.com .  We could use more pictures for the Show & Tell page.  Thanks again to Lynn Powers for all the work she has done for us getting that up and running.  You may send your photos to her.

Please bring your membership to the meeting so we may get your dues renewed for next year.  Or you can mail them to our new P.O. Box 4553, Bozeman 59772.  Heck we don't even care if a form doesn't accompany your money; we'll take care of getting you signed up.

See you all in February.

December 2007 -

Presidents message:
Thank you Bev Hartmann for the program last month.  The name tags you did were wonderful and every one seemed to enjoy the choices they were given.  Hopefully we can have a name tag fashion show in December.

Don't forget the Christmas Party this month.  If you have not signed up yet, it is still not too late - Why not just show up!  Please remember that it is a potluck dinner and if you want to participate in the gift exchange bring a hand made gift valued at $15-$20 wrapped in Christmas fabric.  Don't forget that this meeting is at 6:00 pm in the Fireside Room.  Also remember to bring your Show & Tell, even if it is not quite done - we still love to see it!

The elections are over and we have the following new officers - Thank you for volunteering your time in the months to come

    President -         Cathie Heier

    Vice President -  Barb Cribb

    Secretary -         Shirley White

    Treasurer -        Linda James

Publicity -         Frankie Kustin  (Trish Foster)

I for one am really looking forward to the new direction and ideas that are sparked with every change of officers.  I would also like to thank our outgoing board members that have worked so hard over the last two years with me.

Pam Matthews - She stepped up to the plat to take over as Vice President when the position was unexpectedly re-opened.  She planned the rest of the year's programs and booked nationally known teachers for the next two years.

Gail Nichols - She recorded the minutes for both the General Membership and the Board of Directors meetings she was even there before she had fully recovered from surgery.

Bev Hartmann - She arrived at every meeting with a detailed treasurer's report that told us where every penny was spent and the source of every avenue of income.  She even gave up two of her afternoons t5o be available to the Audit Committee if they needed to clarify anything.

Sally Hickey - She gave us wonderful raffle prizes and kept our name in the newspaper,  then took over the newsletter as well.  She was also the member that had the Sewing Room Tour idea, then worked with Barb Cribb to make it one of our most successful events ever!

Cindy Dahl - She greeted every member with a warm smile, kept track of visitors, new members and the Show & Tell at every meeting.  She kept us up to date with our membership rooster and filled in whenever needed.  I am so happy she will be continuing her position!

Now we all know that there are many other names and faces that have volunteered to help make the Gallatin Quilt Guild a success.   Of course too many to mention here.  But those women were at most if not all of the meetings with enthusiasm and support through all of good times and the not so good times.  I for one am very grateful and very proud to know these women!

November 2007 -

Presidents message:

October's program was another success.  Thank you Sally for such an informative program.  The EQ6 is something I have really been thinking about now - How about the rest of you?  She went over all the features and things we could do bet honestly you had me at "It even figures the yardage for you".

The charity sew-in day is set for Saturday November 10 from 9-4 in room 608.  The blocks are complete and now it needs to be laid out and sewn together.  You don't need to RSVP to participate - simply show up with your sewing machine and sewing supplies (Check with Pat Stackhouse about thread colors).  You will need to bring your lunch and drink if you plan on sewing all day.

Check out our new website - gallatinquiltguild.com.  Is is still under construction but looks great so far. Lynn Powers took the ball and ran with it and is doing a fantastic job. - but she needs some help from all of us - she needs pictures from our members for the Show & Tell Page!  Now ladies don't be shy.  Lets post our quilts for all to see!

Our own Bev Hartmann will be the speaker for the November Program.  She will be doing guild name tags on her embroidery machine.  if you don't have a name tag yet, this is a perfect time to get one!  She lists the items for you in the mailed newsletter.

The Christmas party will be in the Fireside Room on December 11th at 6:00 p.m.  Please note the time difference.  This is a pot luck dinner and if you have not signed up yet you will have time to do so.  The sign up sheet will be available at the November meeting or feel free to call me at home.  Also if you wish to participate in the gift exchange you will need to bring a hand made gift valued between $15-$20 (Not $25).  Remember to wrap the gift in Christmas Fabric!

I look forward to seeing everyone  in November - don't forget to bring your Show & Tell.

October 2007 -

President's message:
It was so nice to see everyone again!  The 'Show and Tell' was very impressive!  It seems a lot of people did not let the summer heat get to them and were able to get a lot of sewing done.

The September meeting was another very enjoyable evening.  Sue Davis shared so much information about her business and even allowed us to take samples of her product.  Thank you Sue!  The speaker for the October meeting will be our own Sally Hickey.  she will be presenting the EQ6 and the Bernina Quilt programs.  You may want to  take notes this time.

The Chill in the air is a reminder of how close the Holidays are.  if you want to get a head start for our Christmas Party it will be on Tuesday December 11, 2007 at 6:00 p.m.  That is our usual day but please make note of the different time.  We will be meeting one hour earlier to allow for the dinner and gift exchange.  There will be a Pot Luck sign up sheet at the next meeting for your convenience.  If you cannot make the meeting feel free to call me at home and I will sign you up.  As always, the guild will provide the drinks and dinner ware.  The gift exchange will take place after dinner and if you wish to participate you will need to bring a hand made gift valued at $25, wrapped in Christmas fabric.

Pat Stackhouse has been hard at work getting us going on the Charity Quilt!  She wants to put some block kits together for us to take home to do if we are unable to make it the sew-in days or even if we just want to make more.  She needs us to bring our batik fat quarters to the October meeting.

Don't forget your 'Show and Tell'.  It is nice to see what everyone is doing!
